Mendocino County has provided some stunning cinematic backdrops throughout the years, so it’s no surprise that when a Film Festival was launched 15 years ago, it was widely supported by locals! And after a mere 15 years, the Mendocino Film Festival has expanded in a myriad of ways! The festival program offers up films for all ages with 35 feature films, 23 shorts, and four California premieres. Film goers will also have the opportunity to interact with 25 filmmakers throughout the weekend. Check out the eclectic, diverse films at the 15th Annual Mendocino Film Festival, June 2nd through June 5th.
“Film as dream, film as music. No art passes our conscience in the way film does, and goes directly to our feelings, deep down into the dark rooms of our souls.” Ingmar Bergman spoke these words, and they couldn’t be more accurate. For this year’s Festival, the selected films run the gamut of storytelling, sometimes wrenching a gasp, sometimes eliciting belly laughs, all thoughtfully chosen. Plan ahead to choose the films you wish to see and experience – drama, adventure, comedy, documentary, narrative, fantasy – all for your viewing pleasure!
Truly a celebration of all the arts, the Mendocino Film Festival has organized amazing extras such as live music to celebrate the films Meeting the Beatles in India and Los Angeles Children’s Choir. Join in a tribal prayer with the Coyote Valley Band of Pomo, screen short films of Native Cinemas, enjoy a whiskey tasting as part of the Keepers of Corn film, and check out the panel discussions, films for kids and surprise screenings, plus book signings and cannabis-related events!
When you hear membership has its privileges, it really does when it comes to the soirees for the Mendocino Film Festival. The Kick-Off event celebrates the members and sponsors in an intimate sneak preview party. The grand dame of the soirees is the Opening Night Royal Garden Party & Chef Showcase featuring the best local chefs and cuisine, world class wines, signature cocktails and more, all with a theme that’s truly hats off! This too is for members, sponsors and invited guests. Of course, a Filmmaker Party is a must at any Film Festival and Mendocino County is no different with a California casual affair open to filmmakers and special guests.
When you see the big white tent in June, you know it’s the season for the Mendocino Film Festival. Other venues include historic Crown Hall on the west end of Ukiah Street, the Mendocino Theatre Company on Little Lake, adjacent to the Mendocino Arts Center, and Coast Cinemas on the corner Madrone & Franklin Streets in Fort Bragg.
