The Historical Society of Mendocino County (est. 1956) is a nonprofit organization that collects, preserves, and shares the diverse history of Mendocino County in California. On-site, we have the Toney Archive and the Held Poage Memorial Home. The Archive houses our headquarters, public research room, and local history store, and houses our collection of historic photographs, newspapers, documents, books, and more. The Held Poage Memorial Home is a historic house museum currently closed for restoration and set to open in the summer of 2024. Research services are offered online and on-site by appointment. Our research room is open to the public during our business hours (Thursday – Saturday 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM).
