It’s a dog’s life in Mendocino County, and by that, we mean Mendocino was meant for pups! With no shortage of places to stay that accommodate your furry family members, Mendocino County is the ideal place to come and play – think long walks on the beach, sniffing around the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, or taking a railbike into the forest – pup in tow!
Dave from DogTrekker is a big fan of Mendocino County and recently blogged about Stanford Inn and their love of pets – so much so that pets often seen to enjoy themselves most of all as they hang out in the guest rooms, around the grounds, in the library, in the restaurant and bar too! But don’t take Dave’s word for it, ask Maya, Dave’s constant companion! Further down the coast, Mar Vista Farm & Cottages welcomes your dogs too! Upon stepping into one of their lovely cottages, you’ll find a basket with a couple of towels, specifically for wiping off dirty paws or rain kissed fur! And in the heartland, Yokayo Ranch is an exquisite place for group outings for your friends and family – and yes, that includes your dogs too!
While you don’t normally want your dog to cross paths with a skunk, the Skunk Train’s Rail Bikes are another story…and adventure! Dogs are secured onto the back of the railbikes so they can enjoy the trip with you. You can also include your pooch on kayaking trips along Noyo or Big River. There is also ample space to take your dog for hikes through beautiful state parks, along the river, or a game of fetch on the beach! Other activities where you can bring along your pup – wine and beer tasting. Most tasting rooms are more than happy to welcome your furry friend. Along with tastings take the opportunity to try new things with your four-legged friends such as touring the Point Arena and Point Cabrillo Lighthouses.
Taking your dog around town is also a lot of fun – especially with places like Mendocino Barkery in downtown Ukiah – geared towards pets. All of the Feed & Pet supply shops are also welcoming as are many eateries. Noyo Harbor is a great place to hang out with the pets, enjoy a bite to eat on the dock and take in the scene. If you’re short on time but want to give your dog a bit of exercise, consider any of the dog parks around the county or city parks – just remember your poop bags!
