Holiday shopping can seem overwhelming, but if you’re looking for a one-of-kind, hand crafted and locally made gift, forget online shopping and head to Point Arena. The Point Arena Merchant’s Association (PAMA) hosts the annual Hometown Holidays, a special evening when many of the businesses stay open late and create a magical holiday event.
The Coast Highway Art Collective has participated in Hometown Holidays for many years, transforming its gallery space into a holiday wonderland, filled with gifts for everyone on your list. The collective members are excited to host an opening reception for their Winter Magic Holiday Gift Fair on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., featuring live music, food, meet the artists and all that art. Everyone in the community is invited.
Guest artists preparing special holiday-themed art for the show include James Docker, woodworker; Perry Hoffman, ceramic, photographs and more; Emma Hurley, clothing, ceramics and more; Carol Williams, statues & beaded jewelry; Elizabeth Solomon, toys, books and more; Deborah Threlkel, Abalone Queen Jewelry; Natalie LaBeau, hand sewn goods and Cindy Morey, photography and trees.
The members of the collective have also been creating very special items for this event, including many handcrafted ornaments for the holidays. Collective artists bring in special items for this fun event, featuring fine jewelry, painting, photography, ceramics, wearable art and printmaking. This month, the members welcome two new artists, Michelle Gilmore, acrylic paint and mixed media and Gabriella Lotan, storyteller and is the model for her photography series shot by Zubin Sahney.
Music for the opening reception will be provided by Bards of a Feather from 2 to 4 p.m., the musical duo of Sharon and Jim Lieberman. They play acoustic guitar, mandolin, tambourine and fiddle and specialize in old blues tunes from the 1920s to folk tunes from the 60’s and 70’s. From 4 to 6pm, enjoy the music of Black Sugar Rose. The duo of Todd and Charlene Orenick revisit the acoustic sounds of country, bluegrass and Americana legends, singing songs of Love, Sex, Death and Dreaming.
The show runs from Friday, Nov. 29 through Sunday, Dec. 29th, 2024. The Coast Highway Art Collective is located at 284 Main St., Point Arena, the little red building with the big yellow sun, located next to the Redwood Coast Credit Union. Regular hours in December are Thursday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit the website at www.coast-highway-artists.com for information about the collective’s artists, upcoming events and how to join.
