The Whales are Coming!
Here in Mendocino County, we’ve discovered that not all our tourists drive! Some arrive every year on the great coastal highway that hugs the coast from the Bering Sea to Baja. Yes, we’re talking about the “Great Grey Whale Highway.” February and March are just the perfect times to catch a glimpse of these gentle giants of the deep as they make their way to the cold northern seas from the lagoons and warm waters (think of them like spas for whales) in Baja California, where the great Greys give life to a new generation.
To celebrate this annual journey, you can experience festive activities on the first three weekends in Mendocino, Little River and Fort Bragg with kid-friendly events, walks, boat tours, wine and beer tasting, and more! This year, bring a bucket and spade for the sandcastle building contest on March 9. Taste wonderful Mendocino County wines in elegant shops and galleries just steps from the dramatic Pacific Ocean cliffs. Sample delicious chowder from some of the best chefs and restaurants and enjoy craft beer from the North Coast Brewing Company.
Tickets are on sale through Brown Paper Tickets, the Mendocino Coast Chamber of Commerce at 217 S. Main St., Fort Bragg or by calling 1-707-961-6300.
