Mendocino Heritage Furniture Show

pergola of wood

Over the last several decades the Crowningshield Brothers, Steve and John have been reclaiming precious old growth Redwood and creating furniture. With homemade pontoon barges, between 1993-97, they pulled up sunken logs that were lost in the local rivers between 1850 and 1935. These “Sinker Logs” sank on their way to the sawmills that were at the mouth of nearly every river on the Mendocino coast. The logs that made it to the sawmills were turned into lumber and often shipped to San Francisco via Schooner. Due to the abundance and size of these trees, the challenge of moving them was immense. Only the prime saw logs were transported, which meant that many tops, bottoms and odd pieces were left behind in the forest. They ( The Brothers ) have also been hunting these forgotten “treasures” on private property with land owners who understand the value and are willing to allow the harvesting of them with minimal impact to the land. Since 2014 they have been creating handmade historical furnishings with this amazing wood.

Generations in the making, made to last for generations. Own a piece of Mendocino history!
