Tucked away on Clay Street in Ukiah is a little gem where you can taste and buy fabulous local craft spirits and some of the finest mezcals on the planet. The Caddell & Williams store is lodged in the Museum of Encountered Objects (no fee), an eclectic assemblage of often fascinating objects assembled by Ansley Coale, co-founder in 1981 of Germain-Robin, the first craft distillery since 1919. Featured are the superb award-winning whiskies and gins of Crispin Cain of the local American Craft Whiskey Distillery. You can also taste such exotica as absinthe, an astonishing rose liqueur made from fresh-picked petals, and a brandy infused with Seville Orange that blows away Grand Marnier.
