Tucked in the backroads of Anderson Valley is a majestic stand of redwoods, the Mailliard Redwoods State Reserve. The 242-acre property was donated to Save the Redwoods League in 1954 by John Ward Mailliard, Jr., a conservationist and longtime member of the League. In a narrow canyon, the road goes through the middle of the park but stop and get out to appreciate the beauty and majesty of your surroundings. Intrepid travelers — meaning those with a four-wheel drive and plenty of time — can take Fish Rock Road all the way out to the south coast.
