The UC Hopland Research & Extension Center (HREC) is a multi-disciplinary research and education facility in Hopland, Mendocino. As stewards of more than 5,300 acres of oak woodland, grassland, chaparral, and riparian environments the REC provides a living laboratory that is open to the public for events and their regular public hikes. Events at HREC include their annual “Barn to Yarn” event each May, a journey from sheep to sweater; and the November Hopland Sheepdog Trials offering an opportunity to watch the sharpest border collies putting the center’s sheep through their paces.
